I can’t say that I’ve been doing much of it lately with all the last-minute tasks getting ready for the baby, but I love to read. So, I can’t express how thrilled I was with my Once Upon A Time/Storybook themed baby shower thrown by one of my best friends and my mom. We had the shower at my house since I kind of live in the middle of everyone and have a still fairly empty living room (with outdated and ugly wood trim/paneling).
Here is the blank version of the invitation which looks like an old library card. *Smiles*
Here is the entryway. There was a “Welcome” note listing all the details of the shower and some parting favors of chocolate chip cookies based on If You Give a Mouse a Cookie in the basket below.
We guessed the baby’s stats. The little cards say “You may come early. You may come late. But, here’s my best guess at your weight, length, and birthdate.”
And, we chose a letter page and drew a picture representing that letter to create the baby’s first ABC book.
I can’t forget about the food! All the food was based on popular children’s books. And, the food was delicious!
We had pigs-in-a-blanket based on the Three Little Pigs.
Really tasty turkey meatballs for Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.Ham sandwiches and deviled eggs for Green Eggs and Ham.
Some veggies for The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Cheese straws for The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales. I’ve been told that any good southern baby shower has cheese straws!
And lastly, we had some adorable cupcakes with book flags!
All in all, the day was absolutely wonderful! Everyone was so generous! We received a lot of books and even some really old ones. My Nana gave me one of my Dad’s old childhood books and a family friend gave us two old Raggedy Ann and Andy books from the 1920s. Of course, those books will go on the top shelf for safe keeping…
I can’t express how much I loved my shower and can’t thank everyone enough who helped out and came to celebrate.
Here is me and the hubby after the shower was over. I swear one day I will paint all that dreadful wood trim and paneling – just need to convince the man standing next to me. Can I get an amen? Please?
