Recently, I helped throw a surprise 30th birthday party for a fellow geeky friend of mine. Let’s all welcome him to the dark side of 30!
Of course, Pinterest is a great resource for party ideas. Knowing that, my good friend (his wife) and I pinned away and came up with our own version of a Star Wars party.
BEHOLD! This party was a lot of fun and was fairly easy to put together.
Alas, I didn’t get any pics of the party banners, but, below are some of the party details.
The utensil holders were just recycled tin cans wrapped in Star Wars humor
Mmm, chips and dip!
We had “boba-que” chicken to go with these slider buns.
Drink selection.
Death Star Rice Krispies
Wookie Cookies
In addition to the above, we had “cryptonite jello shots”.
Pool noodle lightsabers – there are a ton of tutorials to make these on Pinterest.
If you want your “lightsaber” to glow, place a small flashlight in the pool noodle opening!
Lyndon LOVES these lightsabers! We had a ton of leftover lightsabers from the party and we play with them almost every day. He can play without doing any damage, since they’re made of foam. He’ll tell me “Mama [stern look], I challenge you to a duel!”
My fireplace mantle has recently turned a new leaf. The look is much more masculine than in times past and has a “library” type feel. Although, it’s not very seasonal currently (HELLO, 95 degree weather), I thinking with the addition of a few small pumpkins, etc., this decor will do me just fine all the way into the fall.
Speaking of which, I’ve already started marking some fall events on the calendar! It’s definitely the busiest time of the year for us.

I’m a huge PBS fan and I love period dramas. So, I’m excited that Poldark is now currently airing in the US.
Aidan Turner (formerly of Being Human, The Hobbit, etc.) plays the main character Poldark. And, it doesn’t get much better (sexier) than that. Seriously, this guy is brilliant in this show. Please check it out! Poldark is currently airing 9:00 PM on Sunday nights on PBS.

Tomorrow is the Fourth of July! I’ve always found that the Fourth is a great family holiday for me. So, to get Lyndon excited, we made some fireworks of our own courtesy of some pinspiration I found.
The white color is actually an opalescent shimmery paint I had on hand, so the effect turned out pretty cool in person. Now, to go watch the Katy Perry “Firework” video…

Speaking of videos, Lyndon has been OBSESSED with the video game Just Dance lately. As I mentioned last week, he’s got some moves. The boy loves to dance.
One of his favorites is the Ghostbusters dance. He cracks up when the Stay Puft marshmallow man comes on screen.
Perhaps, we’ll have a little Ghostbuster for Halloween this year?

I have to share my newest blog crush – For the Love of a House. Everything about this blogger’s design speaks to me.
I love the green shades in the above picture. The decor is classic and eclectic. I always like discovering new blogs like this.
